I find it curious how tourism seems aesthetically similar to communism: a certain idea of equality, the provision of human needs, standardisation, vertical organisation, and so on. Hotel architecture itself bears a strong resemblance to Soviet architecture.
Why not take the tourist resort, the all-inclusive model, detached from its capitalist logic of consumption, as a kind of post-capitalist experiment? Could we imagine something like “all-inclusive communism”? A hotel converted into a housing cooperative: an architecture that challenges domestic, touristic and capitalist realism at once.
