Resignificación iconográfica

While researching the visual codes of air navigation—a closed sociolect of signs we see when flying but whose meanings remain arcane—I came across a symbol: a yellow cross on a red square, reminiscent of Hard-edge painting. Airports use it when conditions do not allow a plane to land.
Together with Es 4 Cantons, a popular cultural association in Felanitx, we held a banner-making workshop ahead of the 21 July demonstration against the tourism model in Palma. We collectively appropriated this icon to express the many demands that mobilised citizens that summer.
Reenactment de la acción performativa en la Fundació Miró Barcelona como parte del evento de performance Mercury Splash Reloaded, comisariado por Yessi Perse y Ali Arévalo. Casualmente, el dia era de puertas abiertas, por lo que había una gran afluencia de turistas. Después supe que algunos turistas preocupados acudieron a hablar con gente de la institución para que detuvieran la manifestación.
